Team Fortress 2 / Highlander league?
« on: August 14, 2010, 11:40:54 AM »
Hi guys, first of all; long time, no post. Have I missed much?

Read something about some Highlander league going on, didn't see a post here so I'm guessing the clan side of NE have already got a team sorted?
Any one else up for it? I think I've forgotten who I main as now, I think it's either spy or scout.

Server Discussion Forum / Empty Server map change Plug-In
« on: March 27, 2010, 18:32:10 PM »
Just thought I'd point this out to you guys:

It's a plugin that will change the map after X amount of minutes if there hasn't been any players. Useful if the server was left on a map no one wants to play.
Latest version is posted further down the thread.

Team Fortress 2 / So how much 2fort have you played?
« on: November 25, 2009, 14:26:11 PM »
I was thinking recently, that I haven't played 2fort since I first got this game. And even when I did play it, it was on those 32p instarespawn servers. All I remember is that it is an atrociously bad map.

But it got me wondering. I wouldn't be surprised if some people on NE haven't even played it before, if they have steered clear of crappy servers.

Left 4 Dead / autoexec.cfg
« on: November 24, 2009, 17:15:58 PM »
Not much information out there on what you can put in the autoexec. But here is what I have in mine.

Code: [Select]
//# game & script settings
mm_dedicated_search_maxping 100                                  //# maximum acceptable ping for dedicated servers
cl_timeout 60                                                    //# a workaround for server disconnecting prematurely before map load
cl_updaterate "30"                                               //# packets per second you request from the server (default 20)
cl_cmdrate "30"                                                  //# command packets sent to server per second (default 30)
cl_interp "0.067"                                                //# interpolation value to match updaterate 30 (default 0.1)
rate "30000"                                                     //# max bytes/sec the host can receive data (default 10000)
sv_search_key nervous                                            //# search for Nervous Energy servers when starting game from lobby

//# key binds
bind "F11" "disconnect"                                          //# ragedisconnect
bind "F12" "quit"                                                //# ragequit

To make an autoexec, go to Steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead 2/left4dead2/cfg/ create a text file and name it "autoexec.cfg" and paste the above code.

Left 4 Dead / Lets get some VS and Scavange games going
« on: November 20, 2009, 02:36:25 AM »
So I finished the campaign and dived straight into Versus followed by Scavange.

And OMG, Versus makes me rage so hard. I don't usually rage at games, so I consider this a good thing. Scavenge is also really good game mode too, I can see it more suited to competitive play as its a more tight game mechanic, communication is even more important than Versus and the matches are quicker.

Anyway, this is just a heads up to Scavenge mode, try it out if you haven't already.

Team Fortress 2 / Payload Race and Attack/Defend CTF contest map pack
« on: November 09, 2009, 21:27:11 PM »
Payload Race & Assault CTF

Flyby showcase video

This looks pretty epic. 16 maps and a new type of CTF game mode. (I believe CTF-Vector is already on the server, but it's not been voted on whenever I've played).

There is definitely a need for moar PL map (seeing as everyone hates the stock one).
Anyone played these want to give their opinions?

Borderlands / Port Forwarding
« on: November 02, 2009, 16:44:27 PM »
So if you want to play your own missions in co-op then you'll need to host your own game. Which means you'll have to forward ports on your router. is the best place to go.
Select your router make and model, select Borderlands, find out your IP address.

Ports you need to forward are:
7777 (TCP and UDP)
3783 (Voice Chat Port)
27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
28900 (Master Server List Request)
29900 (GP Connection Manager)
29901 (GP Search Manager)
13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
6515 (Dplay UDP)
6500 (Query Port)

To find your IP address open the command window and run IPCONFIG

Borderlands / Borderlands .ini Settings Tweaks
« on: November 02, 2009, 11:50:26 AM »
Here are some of the things you'll want to do straight away. For those unfamiliar with .ini tweaks, they are text files in your Documents folder that store your settings. They are generated automatically by running the game, so If you tweak them, do something wrong and mess up the game, just delete them and you're back on track.

**Find the ini config files under USER NAME\Documents\My Games\Borderlands\WillowGame\Config in Vista/Win7**

To disable the startup movies:
Within WillowEngine.ini

and add // or ; to the beginning to disable them, like this.

I did it to all of them, but it doesn't work with the Skippable ones.

To enable VSync:
Within WillowEngine.ini

Search for "UseVsync" and you should come across the following line:

Change to TRUE. If you are running on anything but a CRT, this is important.
You will also notice a few lines under it "MaxMultisamples=1", I think this is AntiAliasing. I set it to '2', not sure if it works though.

To disable voice chat:
Within WillowEngine.ini

Search for "bHasVoiceEnabled" and you should come across the following line:

Change to FALSE. The ingame mic is always enabled, lets assume you will use mumble, so disabling this is important.

To increase FOV for 16:9 or 16:10
Within WillowInput.ini

Bindings=(Name="W",Command="MoveForward | Axis aGas Speed=+1.0")

and add "| FOV 100") to the end, like this.
Bindings=(Name="W",Command="MoveForward | Axis aGas Speed=+1.0 | FOV 100")

But why have the FOV on the forward key I hear you ask. Because the game continuously resets the FOV back to 70 or something after you sprint, get in a car or teleport.
Use anything between 90-110, it's personal preference.

To disable mouse smoothing:
Within WillowInput.ini
Search for "bEnableMouseSmoothing" and you should come across the following line:

Change to FALSE. This tremendously improves the feel of the mouse when looking around in-game and navigating the UI.

Can we get this map added to the server? I really like it, absolute chaotic madness.
Linkeh (other maps in there too, try them out if you like)

Also I spotted koth_sandvich. Maybe try for the luls?

Check it out:

Maps covered are pl_badwater, cp_gravelpit, cp_steel and cp_fastlane.
I just hope I'm not on the opposite team to you after you watch the vid. And the music is pretty sweet too.

PS: can somebody else start posting new threads in the TF2 forum? It's starting to look like my own private TF2 blog with the amount of threads I'm making.

Some of you might have seen/heard this. Could be useful for some.

example: Flak Dance spends an awfully long time in idle servers but only has one hat :(
