Star Trek Online
« on: January 05, 2010, 15:56:03 PM »
Steam is really pushing this thing in North America. Almost everytime I leave a game I see an ad for this.
Kind of expensive for a pre purchase discount, US$59 and I can't find any mention of monthly fees, thats what turned me off Tabula Rasa.

Any additional info would be great!

It's massively multiplayer so there'll definitely be a monthly fee.

Edit: LOL, biggest monthly fee debate in the history of MMOs: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=6919

I recon it will be along the same lines as the wow free of 8-10 quid.

EDIT: Dear god i read through several pages and the naivety of allot of the people is dumbfounding. Its like asking to have free food and drink without having to go and work. What the hell do they expect? All MMO's need monthly fees to keep servers, admins, new content going and keep the game going and keep it interesting :)

The guys arguement in the first post is funny

Monthly Fees = Less people = less PvP battles = Dead Zones ( or places that is empty ) = No entertainment = Star Trek Online Shut Down

He obviously doesn't understand the concept of a business

Some MMO's use a F2P (free to play) model.. which is ok if you only play a little bit, the way they make their money is to offer in game items for a fee

I played FlyFF previously with renta which was free, but all the cosmetic items and items required to make upgrades etc had a "gpot" cost.. you could buy x amount of gpots for a few dollars and exchange them ingame to get the item you wanted

In the end tho you end up paying more than say a wow subscription if you want to make any real progress

Not sure if anyone's bothered playing this here, but I'm an Lifetime Sub, and it's come a long way since launch.

I'd be up for rocking up an ne STO contingent if there's not one already.
