Minor forum problem
« on: January 28, 2010, 13:15:13 PM »
When I'm in work and surffing da t'interzone thingy, I find myself on this here site.  For some reason now when I direct my browser this here way, I'm kinda stuck in a bit of a time warp.  It still thinks it's Jan 21 and the only new post it gives me is one from then, over and over again, even though I've read it at least 10 times now, it still comes up as the only new post.  This is annoying.  I am logged on 'forever' and it says,

'An Error Has Occurred! Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.'  If I try to log out....which is nice.
This is what it says right now at the top of the main page:

Hey, Monkeh                                                           January 21, 2010, 12:49:33 pm

Any help?

Thank you very much, that's sorted it.

I really am ubern00b when it comes to all things PC and online gaming.  I've only owned a PC for the last 3 years and never really came into contact with them before that except at college for project writing, so I'm learning all the time.

Please keep this in mind when explaining anything to me, treat me as if I'm your 85 year old great uncle who's never even touched a mouse before.... cheers.

Well, here's a tip for ya :P. Use another internet browser, internet explorer is the most insecure browser you can use, which leaves you open to a lot of exploits when using it. I would recommend firefox, but I believe opera and google chrome work well also :).

If you dont like the look of firefox, you can always get an IE theme for it :P.

depends on your OS, ie8 on win7/vista has many kinds of attack surface reduction techniques that mean bugs aren't as exploitable as a similar bug might be for a different browser.

of course IE is by far the most targeted browser, but I don't know if anyone's done a test of "insecurity" or even how you'd go about it

the most important protection against viruses when browsing is your brain; the second-most is an antivirus scanner (because even good pages can serve bad content)

I agree, there is also a nice add on for firefox called wot or website or trust, and basically nearly all sites have a rating on there which is generated from the many people who use the add on, as when you go on a page you can rate it, and then it warns if the site has a low rating before entering it, and all the comments and categories which make it a bad site.

Also programs like spybot search and destroy can attempt to immunize your cookies and such, to prevent certain attack.
