Not really, you get beta from other places too.

I just did it because i prefer digital copies and ease of use etc.

The copy on steam is the "limited edition" version. It costs more.
The only advantage is you start off with several unlocks that you wouldn't get until later normally (ie motion detector for your tank).

Pretty much all pre-order copies are "limited edition" though regardless of where you buy them. There is no difference in price as far as I've seen.

For instance:

The whole point of the "limited edition" is that you start with them, no? Or are they just unlockable earlier? These are not exclusive unlocks as far as I know.

No.

You start with them/unlock them very early to give you an edge over other players.

I've had the tracer dart for ages in the beta. Doesn't take long to level up. If a team mate is in a tank, spawn as an engineer in the machine gun turret and pop out to heal whenever it's clear. 30 points per 33% hp or something like that. eznp.

Well just go on an empty server as engineer and do the whole level - easy/quick way to get 1000 points (esp if your after unlocking something)

If this works like in BF2 for example, you'll need at least 4 to 6 players on a normal server to let the round start, so this might not work so often...
