punkbuster kicks for the steam overlay, the mumble overlay, wegame overlays, or other similar things

if you create a file called "nooverlay" in the same directory as the game executable, it'll stop mumble overlay being used for that game only... as for the rest, you just have to turn them off

also need to make sure PB is up to date etc.

i had that problem with other PB supported games as well, the message i got explained every bit:
PB is not compatible with game overlays, ESPECIALLY not with STEAM, MUMBLE and Vent, you may also get banned for the use of a keyboard (rarely) and mouse (very often) from the g-series.

just go to your steam settings and turn it off, works fine. also sometimes you need to restart steam so the settings work properly, that happened to me the first time i tried it.

I had this.  I went to the even balance fora and downloaded the manual punkbuster client.  That updated punkbuster and then things were fine.  It's often also caused by firewalls blocking punkbusster updates.

PB INIT errors are also the result of server side issues on certain servers. There's little you can do other than try another one right now.

Some people that i know from another community are having the same problem, kicked by PB, so you're not alone on this maybe they fix it?

Easy to fix.

Whenever you join a server successfully, mark it in your favourities ( the history function makes this easy)  Then join servers from your favourites list.  The problem are in a lot of poorly configured servers out there.  When you look at them you'll see that nobody is scoring ( or more worrying when you see twop people scoring - possibly setting up a stats padding server and configuring it in a way so that nobody spoils their fun.)

I don't see how that'd help prevent the anti-cheat system from kicking people. Punk Buster is known to be a pile of crap and people were opposed to it being used since the beta.

Never seen that scoring problem you mentioned.

This is completely a server side error as I said above and really there's not much else to be done other than joining another server.

They are patching the servers.  I haven't had this problem for a little while now, and can play online ok most of the time.  Things that don't work for me is:
1) ping - no ping is reported for any server, hence I only pick servers I know or with uk in the name.
2) some servers if you attempt to join nothing happens - you don't get told it's full or password protected or anything - no idea why?
3) I don't think filters do anything.

Incidentally if you get the "Waiting for data ..." message and you think it's broken, it's not, just go away and get a cup of coffee.  It'll get there in the end and give you a huge (but still incomplete!) list of servers.  If you can get a few servers on your favourites list, or a few friends (I am DeathByDribbling) then checking up on them happens much quicker.

Yeah, the server browser is known to be almost completely fucked. It's especially bad for those who are not in Europe or NA as they still have to ping/communicate with all 10,000+ servers. AUS folks in particular have been kicking up a storm on the forums.

"punkbuster-failed-init-error".

"no heartbeats" error is the one me and my gaming mates get. It normally happens half way through a game too.
