My i5 rig - new CPU mobo hits 5GHz...........
« on: May 09, 2010, 12:17:17 PM »
Was hoping for 4.0GHz, but thought 3.8GHz was more realistic, But-

CpuZ Validation http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1176250

Still a little bit of tinkering to do, but very happy with rig :)

did have a nasty water leak with water all over the mobo in the CPU socket, but all seems well

60Gflops think that makes me the fastest at NE (CPU wise ) till proven other wise ( Zeus throws down the Gauntlet  >:D)

will post some pics when done as I haven't used a PC Case but got it all in a cupboard - its an open plan design only has two fans 92mm externally vented and once you close the cupboard door you see nothing

specs
Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - OEM     1     £139.57
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard    1    £110.63
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-16000CL9D-4GBRH)  1      £102.12
Swiftech Apogee XT CPU Block LGA136       1       £48.63
the rest a already had
GTX295
Tagen 900w
Intel 160GB SSD
Samsung 120Hz and 60Hz

Oh and my FPS in BFBC2 have shot though the roof steady 120Hz with lows of 80 highs of 140+

as promised heres the piccys - hope you like them!

as you can all see this isn't a sloppy quick job all, components are securely fixed and no electrical hazard at all. Case makers all over the world will be after my design temples just you wait and see  ;D

know you can see how easy it was for the water to flood the mobo when the CPU blocked leaked

and for the water reservoir - its on top of the work top

Wife likes it there  ;)

had to clear the worktop to take these piccys  ::)

It's water cooled so I'd expect to see the sink as well.

Update - looks like the CPU is degrading

had to get the Mem RMAed again a few months back and all was sweat again

But had a crashed the other day so ran Linx and it failed - declocked the mem to 1600MHz and it still failed

So declocked the CPU to 3.8GHz mem back at 2000MHz and it passed

Increased to Vcore a bit and it still failed at 4.2GHz and with summer just round the corner and hitting 87 Celicus on core four when running LinX not worth putting more power though it.

Just trying to see if I can get it stable at 4.0GHz and thinking about Ivybridge for its replacement maybe

Thought it worth a post to keep you all updated about the risks in overclocking and not just the joys

Got an e-mail from EVGA today about a competition to win a CPU cooler here

I know all the Pic's and rigs will be well cool and make mine look slightly inferior  :-*- but mine will be different in at many levels

Might just enter it for a laugh  ;)

Think my rig is on its last legs

wont play games - skyrim - crashes

and freash install of win7 is taking some time

But passes memtest86 and linX 40 passes all mem and Furmark np

last freash win7 install done sept 2011

sometimes wont conect to mail server

and for a few months sometimes it boots then when you come back its a blank screen and loked up - needs complete restart with big red button

was hoping it would last till next gen comes out

But
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor and Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard  £250 at overclockers
