I use cam studio for general desktop stuff. With the lossless codec (seperate download from the same site) the quality is superb and it's very easy to use. Of course, if you're looking to record Game footage then that probably won't do.

Letting us know what you intend to record (or a convincing lie) would be helpful :)

both screen and gaming recording, but not exessively^^

mostly gaming, fraps and a free program from a comp magazine suck at recording SC2, BF2 and TF2,
they work a bit better for on screen though...

so, gaming programs - will try out wegame in the next few days  :)

webgame is no better than frapps, use the pldx recorder tool for tf2, but i cant help too much with the others, would be interested if you find a good one that can cope with the detail of sc2

the detail in sc2 was my main concern ;)
i tried out fraps there, which worked good, but its a pain in the ass because you dont see when its recording and how long
if i press "record" it lasts for 30 secs, if i keep it presses i have 2 seconds... and FAQ doesnt explain how to record 20 mins in one piece :/

i think that's because you are using the free version of fraps.  i think it's limited to 30sec records.
