What media player/library?
« on: July 18, 2010, 12:00:00 PM »
I've been trying the Windows Media player/library with Windows 7.  It seemed more usable than previous versions.  It's ok'ish, but there must Shirley be something better. More intuitive and dynamic.

I was using Winamp and still run that on MrsLC's Vista laptop.  I like it, but its interface is cluttered and I've not seen a skin that deals with that as I'd like, especially regarding the library.

I store the stuff on a NAS and MrsLC and I have our own 'playlists' on my phone and her ipod.  I've never got to trying syncronising to two, but now want to.

Ideas would be appreciated for which app I might like to try.  Thanks.   :-*

I use Foobar. It's very light-weight and minimalistic, but ultra-customisable, and there's a wealth of plug-ins available for it.

It's not for everyone though - you may need to be prepared to put some time in to get it configured to your liking.

Yea, it works v well.

It doesn't automagically pull things down, but if you highlight a number of tracks, you can write click and tell it to look up. It will then return a list of matching albums (based on the length of the tracks) and you can select the right one and choose update tags. Usually there is only one result, but with duplicates in different genres, say.

Here is an example result, after I have issued a query:

I like Clementine, it is port of Amarok 1.4 from Linux.

I've been persisting with The Devil,,, aka iTunes.  Horrible.  BUT, it works with Sonos..... which I want.

For audio only try MediaMonkey or Clementine.

iTunes is by far my preferred choice for my Sonos system too. I've found nothing that works better. That said, I'm looking at updating my Sonos system and the later ones do all sorts of funky things.
