Server Tags..
« on: February 07, 2009, 00:05:07 AM »
I have always wondered; On my admin command I have various votes, ie FF etc. So if this got voted, would we then (maybe by default) have tags, and the server be listed in the custom browser?

Why I ask is, we was on HH1 the other day and they had FF, low Gravity and all talk on. It was a laugh to do daft random stuff. It would be cool if we could get this to work, without putting people off. Just purely to to let the server starters have a laugh doing a fairly hard job.  :)

Interesting point.

Would be fun, but I'd suggest it should only be voteable if an admin is actually on the server.  So, the admin enables the vote and when they leave, or soon thereafter, they disable it.

I think on busy nights, such as a Friday night, when the drink is flowing, it is often fun to have all-talk on.

I know we've enabled it in the past, just by asking if anyone has any objections in chat. I guess the tags should probably show - that's the whole point of them. Some people would be annoyed to join a server and find alltalk on if it wasn't tagged. Even more so for ff and low grav.

Personally, I see no appeal in low grav. I think ff should be reserved for special nights when we've got a nice strong following, but definitely think there's validility in having a vote for alltalk (which I think is now very simple using SM).

It's hard though. Suppose a server of 24 people. All have joined knowing alltalk is off, and all are happy with this (hence they're playing on the server). If we raise a vote to enable all talk, then suppose 2/3rds of the 24 vote yes. Then alltalk is enabled - but we've just alienated a third of the server.

So we could set it so that we need 100% of votes for alltalk - but that would never pass.

I think it would be better, if, the vote was along the lines of "Would you prefer alltalk to remain off?" - then if say, more than 1/4 raise an objection, alltalk would stay off.

Now, consider the same process for ff and low grav. These are vastly more impacting than alltalk, and hence I think they should only be kept for advertised, special nights.

Im not thinking of the server in terms of a full server, Im thinking more when its getting started. It does get kinda boring just melee`ing because its something different.

Wut Para? :D

Personally I hate alltalk on full servers, witgh that and TS there is just far to much going on in my ears

Low gravity can be funny if you're in the mood for messing about. FF can be good if you have the right sort of players, and not those that will be likely to grief. It can be annoying even to be accidentally team killed, and then you get revenge kills.

But I like the idea of special stuff going on, it brings the community closer together to be a part of something more than just a standard TF2 game.

yes the tags change.. adds alltalk to the tag.  I dont like servers that lie about how they are configured.. If i enter one that isnt as advertised i never go back there again
Cheers and Good Game
