I've had my mx510 for like 5 years now and still love it. Fits nicely into my hand and gets the job done.
Allthough if you're buying a new one i guess the mx518 is your best bet. (if you want this model that is)

its the same shape as the g5 but has less DPi so for me it wouldnt be the best option.
Oh also it must have a thumb button

I got this mouse:
http://www.trust.com/products/product.aspx?artnr=15401
and it's awesome, programmable buttons, 3200dpi, weights and all that jazz. I have my thumb buttons programmed to get my second and third weapons out, plus the wheel can be tilted left and right and these are programmable too!
It has 5 dpi settings, all customisable and three overall mouse settings so you can have different configs for different games/classes. For insatance my main config is on the green LED setting, but I have a blue LED config for lobbies, with voice chat on a button instead of my fake uber call.
It rocks and I love it.

Been using a razor diamondback on my lappy for a while now, and I like the dynamic sensiitivity changing.
And got a razor mamba on my desktop. I'd recommend the mamba, but it is pricey as all hell.

yeah the mamba is pretty pricey, probably too pricey for me, looking at a budget of £40.
Monkehs has gone on the possible list along with a G5, a G9 and a G500

I adore my razor copperhead that I picked up at i37 last year, might be in the market for a new one myself at i40 though if I see anything I like more.

Roccat kone
here
had a G5 orange and Blue and there where good but the roccat Kone is the DBs - its comfortable feels great and very positve to use and is easy to program all the buttons it has LMB.RMB and eight others. Plus has the anti lift thingy too!
Did have to RMA it twice because the wheel failed - but they brought out the V2 with a stronger wheel and the wheel feels better and has been fault less ever since
its not cheap but I think well worth it.
and has nice flashing lights too if thats your thing

I say you cant go wrong with a MX518. Had mine for donkeys years and still mega happy with it. dpi isnt a major issue for me though but 1800 isnt too bad at all and is more than enough for gaming
Just depends how high a sensitivity you have you fps games set at. I run around the 2.8 - 3.2 mark with the mouse set to max dpi. Then again I used to awp on cs 1.3 to 1.6 which meant you wanted low sensitivity
I have used the sidewinder but found it 'anglely' and annoyed the crap out of me after a few minutes and making my thumb hurt after a while where the mouse sort of sticks out by the thumb (its just at the wrong point and rests on joint :<). Though I have pretty big hands and like things to be just so and tend not to like change

the sidewinder is a horrible horrible mouse to use. feels cheap and flimsy and the buttons arn't intuative.
and i have the deathadder (lh version) really love it, side buttons are perfect positionwise, looks slick and easy to plalm grip or claw grip. and feels sturdy. tracking is nice etc. im not a razor fanboy but it is a nice mouse.
