IRC Set Up Tutorial

My tutorial copied from old forums, basically everything u need to know to set up irc


First off u need to download a client....most use mirc - http://www.mirc.com/get.html

But there are others such as Chatzilla, Gamers IRC....and many more, stick to mirc for now if u are starting imo

Once downloaded install it, its self install so just keep clicking

When u run it click on Tools-Options or the top button 2nd from left

First option is the Connect option...just fill in as i have below




Then move onto the option Servers

u need to find Quakenet and expand that, then choose a Random Server preferably close to u




Then move onto Options, here u can change stuff like Connect on start up or Reconnect on disconnection, u can forget all this until later if preferred




Then we move onto Favourites, just click the little heart shaped button beside the Options button


I think it still comes pre-loaded with crappy channels which u can delete for the most part, well unless you're into all that teen chat crap




u need to tick the Enable Join on connect box bottom left


Then click Add, type in the Channel, Password if any, tick Join on connect

That adds the channel to your favourites and will connect there on start up, do this for all your channels

I finally bought IRC lol. After using the unregistered version for about 5 years, thought I might as well pay for it.

I bought mirc twice and even now still have to go through the 2 continue buttons, wonder how i can get my serial number, i think once i emailed that blokey with the pleading face on the continue button and he emailed it back but i cannot find his email anymore

My guide to using irc...


Step One:

Go to http://www.mibbit.com


Step Two:

Click the "Start Chatting" button


Step Three:

Select "QuakeNet", put in your name, type #nervousenergy into the channel and click go.


And don't use twitter.

Step Four:

Type stuff. You are now done.

how to avoid getting dinged by the bots on IRC if you use highlighting in mIRC:

Go to the highlight settings (tools > address book > highlight)
Add a new highlight
In the text bar put "Watcher|ne,nerelay"
Change "match on" to "nickname"
Make sure "color" is showing blank (white box with black lines)
Make sure "play sound" is on "no sound"
Press OK
Select your new highlight and press "up" until it's above your nickname highlight
Press OK

Yes but you have to do all that clicking everytime, for me i just click the mirc icon once & it does all the stuff auto
