It's finally out - the propably most iconic indie game of our time with a playerbase beyond four million people and about 17 million registered users hit the digital shelves!

With its release, Minecraft's inventor Markus "Notch" Persson fulfilled his dream of creating a simple, yet extraordinary independent game for which he had quit his former job. After working full time on his game for about a year without any salary, an ever-growing fanbase allowed him to found his own company after he made the early alpha versions open to the public, selling the first copies of his very own game. By supplying Minecraft with constant updates, the amount of fans grew rapidly - and so did the need for personal.
Notch's company Mojang, based in Stockholm, isn't just working on Minecraft, though. It also supports other indie game developers and their releases, for example the recent 2D shooter game Cobalt by Oxeye Game Studios.
Of course, Notch's newest vision, the Dungeons-and-Dragons-like online card game "Scrolls" is already in developement, too.
Minecrafts release version was awarded with best reviews and received a metascore of 97 - which puts it side to side with games like Halflife, Team Fortress 2 and even far ahead of high-end, high-budget games like Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
This latest version adds plenty of new features, items, mobs and sounds aswell as the new game mode "Hardcore". Find all the new features listed below.
