At night, many dangers await the unaware miner. At the moment there are 4 hostile mobs that can spawn at night or in darkness (for example in caves). A fifth hostile mob are slimes, but with the exception that only big slimes can hurt the player. They also spawn on any light level, but never over the bottom 16 layers of a map. Further enemies can be found within the nether, but for now we focus on the big four, and how to defeat them.
Normal hostile mobs can spot you from a distance of 16 blocks, which is also the range where you can hear them making noises - so watch out, as soon as you hear one you might already be followed.
